Ingredient of the moment: white curcumin

Curcumin is one of the natural compounds found in the rhizomes of the Curcuma longa plant. Curcumin is known for its many applications, such as inhibiting inflammatory responses, strengthening the immune system, aiding digestion and, as an antioxidant, protecting the body against harmful external influences. Curcumin powders are known for their bright yellow colour, which can leave stubborn stains. Furthermore, these forms of curcumin require a relatively high dosage due to a relatively low extraction ratio.

Fortunately, however, there is now an alternative form of curcumin on the market: white curcumin.
White curcumin is a standardised extract from the roots of the Curcuma longa plant. As the name suggests, it is white in colour, meaning it does not leave any unsightly stains. White curcumin contains 95% tetrahydrocurcuminoids. This is a highly active and readily absorbed curcumin metabolite. Numerous studies have already demonstrated the efficacy of tetrahydrocurcuminoids. Whilst a daily dose of 500–1,000 to 2,000 mg is recommended for yellow curcumin, just 200–400 mg per day of white curcumin is sufficient. This is because the extract ratio is almost double that of ordinary curcumin, namely 100:1. It is therefore an ideal ingredient to add to a supplement.
